The Socin Foundation was established in Bolzano in 2010 by Maria Pia Socin (Bolzano 1923-2009), an eclectic figure in the political and cultural scene. Sister of the painter Tullia Socin (1907–1995) and sister-in-law of the sculptor Enrico Carmassi (1899 – 1975), she dedicated her life to promoting the legacy of the two artists, preserving a vast collection of their works. Since 2011, in collaboration with the Bolzano/Bozen Municipal Museum, the Foundation has had a permanent exhibition space.
