After a century of crisis, Tyrol experienced an economic recovery in the decades following 1600. Thanks to the establishment in 1635 of the “Magistrato Mercantile” (Commercial Magistrate), a court with regulatory functions over trade and exchange established by Princess Claudia de' Medici, Bolzano experienced a period of prosperity in the second half of the 17th and 18th centuries: a “golden age”.
